🌱Do you care about climate change? πŸ₯±Tired of the doom and gloom? πŸŽ‰ Do you like to play and have fun?
At Climate Thrive, we believe in fostering solutions through creativity and play. That's why we're excited to introduce our Climate Hope Play Lab, a unique initiative designed to reshape the climate narrative with optimism for a brighter future.

😰 Climate anxiety

Climate anxiety is a real concern, affecting individuals across the globe. Studies show that a staggering 84% of young people experience at least moderate worry about climate change, with over 45% reporting negative impacts on their daily lives (Hickman et al., 2021). The current alarmist discourse often leaves individuals feeling paralysed, robbing them of agency and hope (Ereaut & Segnit, 2006).

🌱 Constructive hope

But there is another way – constructive hope. It's about embracing optimism, trusting in people's ability to create change, and believing in our own power to make a difference (Ojala, 2015). And what better way to cultivate this hope than through play?

πŸ‘Ύ Time to play!

Play is not only intensely pleasurable but also energising and empowering. It opens us up to new possibilities, fuels creativity, and makes us more adaptable (Brown, 2009). That's why our Climate Hope Play Lab is centred around the power of play.

🧩 Here's how it works

We integrate play research with the Stanford Design Thinking model and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to prototype, test, and share our ideas. Participants engage in creative activities to express their emotions about climate change and foster empathy by actively listening to others.

Collaboratively, they develop short games communicating messages of hope and action, which are then shared with the community for playful interactions. Through learning from successful case studies and gaining insight into the SDGs, individuals select a goal and brainstorm playful solutions. Using playful methods, they develop prototypes, gather feedback, and iterate on their ideas. Finally, participants share their projects on social media platforms to spread messages of hope and innovation.
